Jack Straw used his speech to the Labour party conference in Brighton to play down fears of possible military action against Iran, amid fears that the country's energy programme could eventually produce nuclear bombs.
The foreign secretary said another war in the Middle East is "inconceivable".
"All United States presidents always say all options are open. But it is not on the table, it is not on the agenda," he said.
"I happen to think that it is inconceivable."
