West Ham United, an English Premiership Football team, have been targeted by a takeover bid from an Iranian consortium headed by Kia Joorabchian. West Ham currently have financial debts that have led to underachievement in recent years despite producing some of England’s best players including Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Joe Cole and Jermian Defoe – all of which are expected to represent England in the World Cup.
There is no official bid at present. However, the takeover bid is believed to be worth in the region of £200 million when it is made official. If the deal goes through, West Ham will be able to clear their debts and have £100 million to spend on new players. Alan Pardew, the West Ham manager, said “It’s out of my hands but could I do a lot with a £100 million? Of course I could.”
This is the latest attempt from an Iranian to invest in Britain and is further evidence of growing relations between the two countries. If the deal goes through, West Ham supporters will be hoping the deal will re-establish West Ham as one of England’s most prominent clubs.
