Iran sends letter to E3

A senior Iranian official stressed Iran's strong resolve to resume its uranium enrichment activities within the framework of talks with the EU-3.
Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Hassan Rowhani made the remark in a letter to the Foreign Ministers of the E3 and the EU Foreign Commissioner.
In a letter to Rowhani Tuesday, the E3 had expressed concerns over the resumption of activities at Isfahan Uranium Conversion Facility (UCF).
"With good intentions and in a speedy manner, Tehran is ready to continue its negotiations with the E3 in this respect," he said.
Referring to that fact that Iran has been patiently keeping its promise on suspending its uranium enrichment activities in the past two years, he stressed that the move was only considered by the Paris agreement as merely a trust-building gesture and not a legal obligation.
"We accepted to voluntarily suspend the fuel cycle work in a background of progressing negotiations because we preferred to reach a political agreement, which would be more effective in a larger political scale."
The SNSC official stressed that "Iran has already proved its good intentions and shown the highest degree of flexibility by offering a number of proposals in a useful and acceptable manner which could be accepted by both parties."
He expressed regret that it is only all too clear that the negotiations could no longer continue in the manner called for in Paris agreement "because your side is refraining from offering solid answers to our proposals - whether parts of them or the whole thing - and even keeps stressing its own views on objective guarantees".
He further added that both the July-29 and the current letters clearly indicated that the proposals meant by the E3 fail to enshrine all the elements which have been stressed upon in the Geneva and London agreements.
"As we have already informed you in Geneva and London, we intend to take only a small step towards preserving this cycle," he said adding this measure will be taken under the full surveillance of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Rowhani continued his letter by asserting that Iran "will continue to voluntarily suspend its uranium enrichment activities" because it attached great importance to its ties with the three European countries and was always ready to consolidate bilateral ties based on mutual respect and safeguarding the interests of both sides.
