New Iranian president takes office 03/08/2005

President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad received Wednesday his constitutional mandate for taking office.
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei gave him the go-ahead to form the ninth cabinet after the Islamic Revolution victory in 1979.
The mandate ceremony attended by senior officials of the Islamic Republic was kicked off by a piece of Quran's verse-recital.
Minister of the Interior Abdolvahed Mosavi-Lari then took the podium and delivered a report to the audience on the preparations and results of the ninth presidential elections.
He wished for the president-elect to be succeeded in his tenure.
The outgoing President Mohammad Khatami was the next figure to take the podium and read out the Supreme Leader's message for the presiden-elect.
In the message, the Supreme Leadre described the ninth presidential elections as an epic which was created by high-profile turnout which guranteed the country.
He praised the Iranian poeople for rallying the cause of religious democracy which opened a new era in the Islamic Republic.
He extolled the president-elect as a calibre director whose simple lifestyle and adherence to Islamic thoughts and backing the people's public rights attracted public vote. He urged Dr. Ahmadinejad to firmly follow up his presidental solagns.
Ayatollah Khamenei then granted the president elect his mandate and they embraced each other as a sign of respect and affinity.
The president-elect Mahmud Ahmadinejad then took the podium. He offered prayers to God for the infallible household of Islam's prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and paid homage to the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini and the surviving fam ilies of the revolution's martyrs.
He described the results of the ninth presidential election as destructive for the enemies' plots.
He termed all-out justice as the cornerstone of his future cabinet's decision-makings.
He considered justice as solution to all problems across the international arena.
He named 'affection with people', 'being at the service of people', and 'national scientific advance' as other principles of his government policy.
He pledged to preserve the Islamic values and defend the civil rights of all Iranians.
He vowed to put top on his agenda being at the service of poor people.
He also thanked the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution and prayed to God to be succeeded in his term.
Mr. Ahmadinejad paid tribute to the outgoing president and his cabinet.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials in the venue of the Supreme Leader's public meetings.
According to article 110 of the IRI Constitution, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution should give the president-elect the mandate to take on his four-year term.
