Iran suspends unranium enrichment in two major plants
22/11/2004

Based on the Paris agreement between the E3/EU and Iran last week, Iran has officially announced that it has ceased uranium enrichment in Isfahan and Natanz.

The agreement required Iran to suspend all its uranium enrichment by 22 November to avoid further doubts about its nuclear ambitions.

Today’s announcement by Iran was welcomed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as a good step in the right direction, but it said the Agency will check that everything has been stopped.

While stressing on Iran's nuclear transparency and compliancy with international agreements, Iranian officials have categorically dismissed recent allegations by the National Council for Resistance in Iran, the Political wing of the Iranian opposition group MeK.

The MeK which is branded as a terrorist organisation by both the Americans and European Union, just days after Iran/EU nuclear agreement claimed that Iran is hiding its nuclear activity in two other locations including one, north of the capital Tehran.

The continuing row over Iran's nuclear programme, is also set to be discussed at the talks in Sharm el-Sheik where the outgoing American secretary of state Colin Powell and Foreign secretary Jack Straw are to attend a conference on Iraq. Representatives of the Iranian government will also be attending this conference.
