IRIB have released the film documentary, ‘A Man Called Brian’ by Mahmoud Shoulizadeh. It is a documentary about a man called ‘Brian’ who has remained opposite the Houses of Parliament in London, protesting at the humanitarian suffering caused by the War on Terror.
Mahmoud Shoulizadeh told British Persian Media that he felt great empathy for Brian and this was the main reason for wanting to share this story with the world. “I passed by him, like many people do everyday. Then I realised that he was there 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I felt for his dedication.”
“A film maker makes films, therefore I began to talk with Brian about it. I understand that Brian’s presence is political but I wanted to focus on the humanitarian aspects.” Shoulizadeh continued, “Rather than asking Brian to give a lecture for the camera, which could bore some of the audience, I asked him to be as he would without the presence of the camera. I focussed on his behaviour, gestures, body language and especially the eyes - trying my best to illustrate his personality.”
The film was conceptualised and produced by Mahmoud although he also received the help of his family. His wife Rozina, provided the voice of the narrator, while his 16 year old son Pouya, composed the music.
