Iran and the West: how best to encourage reform and discourage nuclear ambitions?
17/09/2004

Since 2000 Christopher De Bellaigue has lived in Iran, where he is The Economist's correspondent and also writes for the New York Review of Books, the New Yorker and Granta.
Ali Ansari, an associate fellow, Chatham House, previously lectured at the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies, University of Exeter.
They will discuss the conundrum which Iran presents - for Europeans, who broadly believe that detente is possible and should be pursued, and for the American Right, which suggests that the regime cannot reform and that it should be subjected to more pressure.

Time: 13:30

Venue: RIIA, Chatham House, 10 St James's Square, London, SW1Y 4LE
